La Academia de Estrellas
School Overview

About La Academia de Estrellas
La Academia de Estrellas Charter School was established to provide innovative learning opportunities for
students, by honoring diverse cultures, languages, backgrounds and academic abilities. The instructional
foundation at La Academia de Estrellas is built upon three pillars:
1. Inquiry-based instruction, which engages students in open-ended, student-centered, hands-on
activities, which support the acquisition and mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
2. Community based learning, where students, parents and teachers partner with community members
to create connections between the classroom and real-world situations.
3. A mixed-age reading component, in which students receive instruction based upon individual needs in
flexible, mixed-age groups.
We currently offer grades K-5 and plan to add pre-kindergarten (3 and 4 year olds) and 6th grade for
2010-11. Further out, we expect to add 7th and 8th grade to ensure continuity and quality education for
students of La Academia de Estrellas.
The school is located at 111 S. Beckley Avenue (Mead Hall building of Cliff Temple Baptist Church) in
the North Oak Cliff section of Dallas. The student entrance in the morning is on the north side of the
church on 10th Street.
